The Benefits of CBD & CBN

Move over THC. There are new cannabinoids in town. Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few years, you’ve probably noticed a giant uptick in CBD and CBN products ranging from creams, patches, dog treats, and gummies to just about everything in between. You can even purchase CBD and CBN products at Whole Foods these days! Even though THC is widely considered the most important cannabinoid due to its psychoactive makeup, CBD and CBN are taking some of THC’s spotlight due to their potential therapeutic benefits, like alleviating anxiety, and inflammation, and most notably, aiding in sleep.

If you’re looking for a more holistic approach to getting a good night’s rest, CBD & CBN are great bets. Recent studies show CBD has a calming effect on the body, as well as improving the quality of your sleep by helping settle you into deeper sleep. CBD interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, which regulates various physiological processes, including… you guessed it: sleep. Studies also suggest that CBD can be used to treat anxiety and depression, ease diabetic complications, inhibit symptoms of arthritis, and reduce traumatic symptoms of PTSD. CBD also contains anti-inflammatory properties – which is why there are so many pain-relieving CBD creams and patches on the market.

CBN is a lesser-known cannabinoid that’s also studied for its potential benefits for sleep. Recent studies believe CBN also has sedative properties that promote relaxation and sleepiness. A 2019 study on rats found that CBN, as well as CBD and a mix of the two cannabinoids, decreased muscle sensitization. The researchers suggest that CBN could provide pain relief for chronic muscle pain disorders, such as temporomandibular disorders (pain in the jaw muscles, joints, and nerves) and fibromyalgia (a condition that causes pain all over the body), but clinical studies have yet to test this theory.

Today, different companies sell a variety of flavored 5mg-10mg CBD and CBN gummies, promoting them as sleep aids. As previously mentioned, CBN and CBD gummies can help lull you into a deeper sleep, making it easier to get a whole night’s rest. They are wildly popular with consumers who don’t want to wake up feeling groggy after taking pharmaceutical sleep aids, such as Advil PM, or prescription drugs, such as Xanax.

While both CBD and CBN have shown promise for improving sleep, it's important to note that research is still in its nascent stages, and more studies are needed to understand their effects fully. It's also essential to choose high-quality CBD or CBN products and follow dosage guidelines carefully. Some of our favorite products are XX and YY.

Other lifestyle factors, such as maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, creating a relaxing sleep environment, and avoiding stimulants like caffeine and electronics before bed, are also important for promoting good sleep habits. It's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new sleep aids or supplements. According to our resident medical advisor, Mary Brown, "It's all about functional euphoria. When cannabis compounds help people sleep better, perform better and function at a higher level, that's extremely powerful. It's the true Entourage Effect!!"
